The Vancouver Whitecaps are coming off a third place finish in the Western Conference in 2017. The club won in the knockout round of the playoffs, as they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, but Vancouver was eliminated in the conference semifinals by the Seattle Sounders. The Whitecaps did well just to finish in third place last season, as they had a goal differential of just +1. To contend for the MLS Cup in 2018, Vancouver needs to hang on to their core players and upgrade their defense.
Vancouver Whitecaps MLS Odds
Vancouver will not be the favorite to win the MLS Cup in 2018, but they could be a contender. The WhiteCaps had a chance last season to win the Western Conference but fell short in their final two games of the regular season. If the team makes some smart transfer moves they could be a contender again next season.

Vancouver had a great chance to win the Western Conference and get a bye in the first round of the playoffs but they fell to third place, as they picked up just one point in their last two games. Vancouver routed San Jose in the first round of the playoffs, but then did nothing against Seattle, losing 2-0.
Players to Watch
Vancouver is hoping to hang onto Fredy Montero and he is an exciting player to watch. Other players that move the needle are Yordy Reyna, Kendall Watson and Stefan Marinovic.
The Coach
Carl Robinson has led the team since late in 2013. The Whitecaps are 64-61 under Robinson with 43 draws.

Vancouver Whitecaps Predictions
F - or Vancouver to contend in 2018 they need to keep their key players on the squad and improve on defense. Montero was brought in on a loan, so they need to make a move to add him permanently. Vancouver has some talent on defense and in goal, but they need better defensive play in the midfield. The Whitecaps should be a playoff team in 2018 and if they have success in the transfer window they could be an MLS Cup contender.
