FC Dallas enters the 2018 season trying to recover from perhaps the worst collapse in MLS history. FC Dallas was the best team in the 2016 regular season and they were in first place in late July of the 2017 season. In the last 15 games of the 2017 season, FC Dallas went 2-7 with 6 draws to finish in 7th place in the Western Conference, and out of the playoffs. Will Dallas be able to put last season’s collapse behind them for the 2018 season?
FC Dallas MLS Odds
FC Dallas should still be thought of as an MLS Cup contender despite last seasons’ collapse. FC Dallas was a first place team that simply couldn’t do anything right in the latter part of the season. They should rebound and get back into the playoffs in 2018 and be a serious contender in the Western Conference.
MLS Results
You almost have to look at the 2017 season for FC Dallas as two separate seasons. In their first 19 games they were a really good team that averaged nearly 1.7 goals per game and allowed just one per contest. The second half of the season was completely different, as FC Dallas averaged just about one goal per game and gave up 1.9 per contest.
Part of the problem for FC Dallas was that they had a boatload of International call ups. Starters that missed time were Acosta, Hedges, Akindele, Zimmerman, Figueroa, Gonzalez, and Gruezo. Injuries were also a major problem, as Zimmermann and Diaz came back from serious injuries and were not the same.
Players to Watch
FC Dallas has two main scorers, as Maximiliano Urruit had 12 goals last season, while Roland Lamah had 11 goals. Michael Barrios is also a player to watch in the midfield, as he had 12 assists last season.
The Coach
FC Dallas has been led since early 2014 by Oscar Pareja. He was an assistant with FC Dallas in 2006 and 2007 before moving on and becoming the head man with Colorado in 2012. He led the Rapids to the playoffs in 2013 but resigned in 2014 and took the head job with FC Dallas. He led the team to the playoffs in 2015 and 2016.
FC Dallas History
FC Dallas is located in the Dallas suburb of Friso, Texas and they play their home games at Toyota Stadium. The team began play in 1996 as the Dallas Burn and they were one of the leagues founding members. The team played their first game in April of 1996 and defeated San Jose 3-0. The team is owned by the Hunt Sports Group who also owns the Kansas City Chiefs. FC Dallas won their first Supporters’ Shield in 2016 but they ended up losing in the playoffs. The best finish for FC Dallas was in 2010 as they finished as the runner-up in the MLS Cup. FC Dallas has won the U.S. Open Cup twice, in 1997 and 2016. The main rival for FC Dallas is the Houston Dynamo and the teams play each season in the Texas Derby.
FC Dallas Predictions
FC Dallas should rebound in a big way in 2018. The team has been a perennial contender recently in the MLS and last year should be considered an aberration. Expect FC Dallas to get back to their winning ways and make the playoffs in 2018 and contend for the top spot in the Western Conference.
