Real Sociedad is coming off a very successful season, as they finished 6th in La Liga and qualified for the Europa League. Optimism is high that La Real can finish just as high in 2017-2018. The team was able to hang onto most of their talent from last season, with the only key departure being Yuri Berchiche. Manager Eusebio Sacristan has done a very good job at Real Sociedad and he has more talent to work with this year, as La Real added Diego Llorente and Adnan Januzaj.

Real Sociedad doesn’t have enough talent to challenge the top three of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid but they could definitely be in the mix to get fourth place. La Real finished nine points behind Sevilla last season for fourth place and a spot in the Champions League.

What's New?
Real Sociedad added Diego Llorente from Real Madrid, as Llorente looked good on loan at Malaga last season. They also added Adnan Januzaj from Manchester United. The team also got loan returns, as Ruben Pardo came back from Betis, Alain Oyarzun from Mirandes, Srdan Babic from Reus, Pablo Hervias from Elche, Hector from Granada and Eneko Capilla from Numancia. They promoted Kevin Rodrigues, Igor Zubeldia, Jon Bautista and Alvaro Odriozola from Real Sociedad B.
La Real has been able to hang onto Inigo Martinez and Geronimo Rulli. Manager Eusebio Sacristan hopes that Martinez will be a fixture for Real Sociedad. Eusebio told Marca recently, "For us, he is a very important player, extraordinary, and of a level that we all know. It's very good that we have him with us. There have been a lot of rumors regarding our players. In a way this is good and normal that, following a good season, clubs are monitoring our players who have a high level."
Eusebio realizes that marquee teams will always make a run at his top players. "We are vulnerable to the more powerful clubs when they decide, at some point, to come and get our players. "Thankfully only Yuri [Berchiche, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain) has left the club. I hope we can count on the rest once the transfer window closes."
What's Gone?
Real Sociedad lost Yuri Berchiche to PSG and they are going to lose Carlos Vela to Los Angeles FC in January. They also lost Esteban Granero to Espanyol, Mikel Gonzalez , Joseba Zaldua on loan to Leganes, Markel Bergara on loan to Getafe, Alain Oyazun to Zaragoza, Hector on loan to Alaves, Srdan Babic on loan to Red Star Belgrade, Ander Bardaji to Huesca and Pablo Hervias to Eibar.
Real Sociedad 2017-18 Predictions
Real Sociedad finished with 64 points last season, but they were nine points behind Sevilla for fourth place. La Real was a good home team, as they went 10-4 with five draws. They outscored opponents at home by a combined margin of 30-24. La Real was not as good on the road, but they were respectable, going 9-8, with two draws. It is their road play that ended up getting them a Europa League spot. They scored 29 road goals and gave up 29 goals. It has been said many times that a team can do well by playing .500 on the road and winning at home.
Real Sociedad looks like a team that could challenge for a Top 4 position in 2017-2018. They look to be slightly better than they were a year ago, so finishing with 70 points is not out of the question and that might be good enough for 4th place in La Liga this season.
