Las Palmas will try and overcome the loss of Kevin-Prince Boateng, as they attempt to avoid relegation in 2017-2018. Las Palmas finished in 14th place last season in La Liga but they could struggle to match that finish without Boateng, who led the team in scoring a year ago. Las Palmas didn’t do much in the off-season so they could be in relegation danger this season. Oddsmakers listed the odds of Las Palmas being relegated at +300.

Odds To Win La Liga: +5000 (Field)

Odds To Be Relegated: +300

Las Palmas is no threat to win La Liga but they could be in relegation danger this season without Boateng. The team will hope to add some players in the transfer market but losing Boateng at the last minute is a huge blow to this club. The odds of Las Palmas being relegated could have some value, as it is hard to see how UD is going to be as good as they were a year ago when they were only eight points clear of the relegation zone.

What's New?

Las Palmas added Ximo Navarro from Almeria, Leandro Chichizola from Spezia, got loan returns of Sergio Arajuo from AEK Athens, Hector Figueroa from Ponferradina, Tyronne from Tenerife and Ortuno from Cadiz. They promoted Borja Herrera from Las Palmas B and got Jonathan Calleri and Hernan Toledo on loan from Deportivo Maldonado, and Vitolo on loan from Atletico Madrid.

What's Gone?

Without question, the biggest loss is Boateng but the team also lost Javi Varas to Granada, Helder Lopes to AEK Athens, lost Jese to PSG on a loan return, Roque Mesa to Swansea City, Hector Figueroa to Toledo, Tyronne to Tenerife and Montoro to Granada. They also loaned out Marko Livaja to AEK Athens and Mateo Garcia to Osasuna.

“Boateng said he was leaving “because I miss my family. It’s not a decision based on sports,” he told a news conference. ”For a father it is very difficult to be so far from one’s child and wife. Family comes first.” Boateng had 10 goals in 28 appearances for Las Palmas in La Liga last season.

“Boateng is the most important player that has ever passed through this club," UD president Miguel Angel Ramirez told a news conference. "This was a situation that had to be addressed as he deserved. We have unilaterally rescinded the contract and I hope to see him dressed in yellow another time."

Ramirez said the club was working to bring in a midfielder before the transfer market closes. "I hope that before the market closes on August 30, we could bring in a midfielder." Ramirez said.

Las Palmas 2017-18 Predictions

Las Palmas was not a great team last season even with Boateng scoring ten times. They were solid at home going 9-4 with six draws, but they were sickening on the road, with just one win and 15 losses to go along with three draws. It is hard to see Las Palmas playing as well as they did at home a year ago, so if they don’t improve their road mark they are going to be in relegation danger.

The odds on Las Palmas being relegated appear to be really generous at +300, as the team looks worse than they were a year ago and they were just barely above safety last season.  Las Palmas could definitely be in a relegation fight in 2017-2018 and it would not at all be a surprise to see them finish 18th or 19th and end up out of La Liga for next season.
