Girona will be playing in La Liga for the first time in their 87-year history in 2017-2018. The Albirrojos have been a top four-team in Segunda in each of the last five seasons but they couldn’t do quite enough to get promotion until last year. The big question now is whether they can avoid relegation this season. Girona has a relationship with one of the top teams in the Premier League, so you might want to call the Albirrojos Manchester City B. There is even speculation that Manchester City is close to buying a stake in Girona. Manchester City loaned Marlos Moreno, Douglas Luiz and Aleix Garcia to Girona for this season.

Odds To Be Relegated: -135
It is all about survival for the Blanquivermell this season. It will be the fifth season for manager Pablo Machin at the helm and he has a team that is exciting to watch. Girona won’t sit back and just play defense, as they play a counterattacking style. Whether that style will work in La Liga is questionable, as Girona doesn’t have a strong defense and their leading scorer from last year is gone. Oddsmakers have listed Girona as one of the favorites to be relegated this season.

They also lost Rene to Almeria, Christian Herrera to Lugo, Albert Vivancos to UCAM Murcia and David Oliveros to Lleida Esportiu.
Girona 2017-18 Predictions
Girona was the top scoring squad in Segunda last season but it won’t be easy in La Liga for the squad, especially without top scorer Samuele Longo whose loan from Inter Milan expired. Girona is hoping to get Olarenwaju Kayode on loan from Manchester City to upgrade their offensive capabilities.
Girona is listed at odds-on to be relegated this season. It is hard to make a strong case for Girona staying up, as they lost their top scorer from last season in Longo and didn’t do a great deal to replace him. Girona did bring in a lot of Manchester City players but we don’t really know if any of them are any good. City is using Girona as a developmental team in some respects, and while some of the players may eventually see action for City, many will not.
The odds are against Girona doing much this season. Girona has no previous experience in La Liga and there are no sure wins on their schedule, as even Getafe looks to be better than they are. Girona is definitely a great story making their first-ever appearance in La Liga, but unless they get some transfer help or unless they get some surprising performances from young players, they are likely going to be one of the bottom three teams in La Liga in 2017-2018 and end up getting relegated.
