Celta Vigo will look to improve upon last season’s 13th place finish in 2016-2017. The team went from a surprising 6th place finish and a place in the Europa League to a disappointing 13th last season. Part of the issue for Celta Vigo last year was their Europa League action and they won’t have to worry about extra games this season, but they will also have to win without manager Eduardo Berizzo, as taking over is Juan Carlos Enzue. Celta Vigo is considered right on the fringe of being a team that can finish in the upper half of La Liga. Their odds for the 2016-2017 reflect that fact, as they are +1600 to finish in the Top 4 and also +1600 to be relegated. What can we expect from the Celts this season?
Celta Vigo La Liga Futures Odds
Odds To Win La Liga: +5000 (Field)
Odds To Finish in the Top 4: +1600
Odds To Be Relegated: +1600
Celta Vigo is no threat to win La Liga, so it is really all about survival for this squad. They may not be much of a threat to finish in the Top 4 or to be relegated but we’ll focus more on the possibility of relegation, as the team doesn’t look to be good enough to challenge for a Top 4 spot in 2017-2018.

What's New?
Celta Vigo added Maxi Gomez from Defensor Sporting and they also got back loaned players Alex Lopez from Valladolid, David Costas from Oviedo, Levy Madinda from Gimnastic, Dejan Drazic from Valladoid and Pedro Martin from Mirandes. They also promoted Ivan Villar from Celta B and they picked up Jozabed from Fulham and Stanislav Lobotka from FC Nordsjaelland.
What's Gone?
Celta Vigo lost Levy Madinda to Asteras Tripolis, Giuseppe Rossi was released, Carles Planas to Girona, Josep Sene to Cultural Leonesa and the team loaned out Theo Bongonda to Trabzonspor, Alvaro Lemos to Lens and Samu Arajuo to Barcelona B.
Celta Vigo may also lose midfielder Pape Chiekh Diop, as Tottenham has a major interest in the 20-year old.
Celta Vigo 2017-18 Predictions
This season will mark the return for Unzue at Celta Vigo, as he was an assistant in 2013-2014. Celta Vigo did very little in the off-season but they still have Iago Aspas who can provide goal scoring. The team was hoping for more from John Guidetti but he broke his collarbone.
Celta Vigo has been a middle of the table team in La Liga in recent seasons and there is no reason to think that changes in 2017-2018, so they should be safe in terms of relegation. The one concern would be the change in managers, as Berizzo did an excellent job in his tenure with the club. The pressure will be on Unzue to deliver but he has been with the team previously and he knows the situation.
Celta Vigo was an okay home team last season and a poor road squad. They went 9-8 at home with two draws but on the road they were 4-11 with 4 draws. If Celta Vigo is to have any chance of making a run into a Europa League spot they need to improve their road record. Two years ago when they finished 6th they were .500 on the road at 8-8-4.
Celta Vigo slipped last season to 13th place and it seems more likely this year’s team can be one that challenges for an upper table position. A finish of 9th or 10th is definitely not out of the question for Celta Vigo in 2017-2018 and if things go really well they could challenge for a Europa League spot.
