Roma finished second a year ago, finishing just four points behind Juventus. It may not be easy for Roma to duplicate last year’s success in 2017-2018, as they have a new director in Monchi and a new manager in Eusebio Di Francesco. Roma will also be without club legend Francesco Totti and they will miss Mohamed Salah who left for Liverpool. The team did add Hector Moreno, Maxime Gonalons and Alexander Kolarov in the off-season but overall Roma looks weaker than they were a year ago.

Odds To Win Serie A: +1000
Oddsmakers really don’t like the chances of Roma to win Serie A this season, as they listed them well behind Juventus. Roma finished just four points back out of first place last season but oddsmakers don’t give Roma much of a shot at overtaking Juventus this season.

AS Roma 2017-18 Predictions
Roma has a good striker in Edin Dzeko who scored 39 goals in all competitions last year and he will need to put up similar numbers if Roma is to have any chance of repeating last year’s second place finish. Roma really doesn’t have a lot of talented scorers behind Dzeko, so scoring could be an issue if Dzeko slows down.
The question with Roma this season is how will new coach Di Francesco handle the club? He is expected to run a 4-3-3 system that he ran with Sassuolo. Whether he can get his system to work at Roma remains to be seen. Di Francesco has never coached a team in the Champions League and he will be under intense scrutiny. His squad is definitely not as good as Juventus or Napoli, but fans will expect at least a top 4 finish again this season.
The future is bright for Roma, as they have lot of young players, but there could be some growing pains this season. Monchi sold a lot of talent and brought in a lot of young players. That is good news down the road but in 2017-2018 it could mean a few problems, as young players take time to develop.
Roma has very few weaknesses other than inexperience. They are solid in the midfield with Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan, they have a top scorer in Dzeko and their defense is solid. The projected lineup should be Alisson, Karsdorp, Fazio, Manolas, Kolarov, Pellegrini, Strootman, Nainggolan, Perotti, Dzeko and el-Shaarawy.
Roma went 16-2 at home last season with one draw, outscoring opponents by a combined 50-18. They were 12-5 on the road with two draws, outscoring opponents by a combined 40-20.
Roma should be a good team again in 2017-2018 but they may take a step back from their second place finish a year ago. They have a new coach and a lot of new players and it may take some time for everything to come together. And in Serie A that means they are not going to challenge Juventus for the top spot and they may have difficulty just getting a top 4 position. A fall outside of the top 4 is definitely possible, with the team battling for 4th or 5th place at the end of the year.
