Hellas Verona is back in Serie A after being relegated following the 2015-2016 season. The team might be able to stay up this season and avoid relegation, as they have some young talent that was bolstered in the off-season by the additions of Martin Caceres and Alessio Cerci. Verona also has a very good goal scorer in striker Giampaolo Pazzini who scored 23 goals in Serie B last season.

Odds To Win Serie A: +5000 (Field)
Verona is no threat to win Serie A so it is all about avoiding relegation for this club. Verona was a very good team in Serie B last season and there is optimism that they can duplicate some of that success against the big boys this season. The big key will be avoiding injury, as the team doesn’t have a lot of scoring depth behind Pazzini.

Hellas Verona 2017-18 Predictions
The saga surrounding Cassano created a lot of trouble for this team before the season began and it is hard to know how the squad will react. Cassano was brought over from Sampdoria but then he abruptly retired. He said he didn’t want to suffer through a losing season. How much his loss will hurt the club remains to be seen. The projected starting lineup for this season is Nicolas, Romulo, Caceres, Ferrari, Souprayen, Bessa, Buchel, Valoti, Verde, Pazzini, and Cerci.
Verona was a good team in terms of scoring goals in Serie B last season, as they scored 64, but that doesn’t mean the team will score as well in Serie A. Pazzini was great in Serie B but he has not proven he can score at the top level. He had just six goals in 30 appearances two years ago in Serie A. If he doesn’t score then the team is in trouble because Daniel Bessa had just 8 goals behind him and Davide Luppi had only six.
Verona is hoping that Cerci still has something left. He didn’t look that good with Madrid but perhaps he regains his form this season. Verona brought in Marco Silvestri to compete in goal with Nicholas and the defense has been upgraded with the additions of Heurtaux, Caceres and Cherubin.
Verona is probably going to be in a relegation fight this season. They have a manager in Pecchia who will be coaching in Serie A for the first time, a striker in Pazzini who has yet to prove he can score consistently at the top level, and some early drama to overcome.
Verona was a good home team last season in Serie B, as they went 12-2 with 7 draws, outscoring the opposition by a combined 36-17. They were 8-6 on the road with 7 draws, outscoring the opposition by a combined margin of 28-23.
Verona isn’t good enough to finish in the top half of the table, so the question is whether they can avoid relegation. It is probably going to be close, as the team doesn’t have a lot of scoring and they don’t have a lot of depth. It could go down to the final couple of weeks of the season to determine whether or not Verona avoids relegation in 2017-2018.
