Chievo Verona finished in 14th place in Serie A last season, well clear of the relegation zone. The club may have been fortunate to finish as highly as they did considering they were outscored by 18 goals on the season. Part of the problem was that the team didn’t play nearly as well at home as they did the previous season, winning just six times. Chievo Verona does have a good playmaker in Valter Birsa who scored seven goals and had nine assists last season, but he needs help.

Odds To Win Serie A: +5000 (Field)
Chievo Verona is no threat to win the league, as they are listed as part of the field at odds of +5000. The question is whether or not the club is in any relegation danger. Chievo Verona needs to improve their weak home mark from last season if they want to make sure they avoid the bottom three this season.

Chievo Verona 2017-18 Predictions
Manager Rolando Maran did a nice job last season with a club that struggled to score goals, as they scored just 43 goals, while giving up 61. Chievo Verona did pick up former Bayern midfielder, Gianluca Gaudino, so perhaps he can provide some support for Birsa this season. The starting lineup for Chievo Verona this season should be Sorrentino, Cacciatore, Dainelli, Cesar, Gobbi, Radovanovic, Castro, Gaudino, Birsa, Pellisier or Garritano and Meggiorini.
Chievo Verona was promoted in 2008 and they have managed to stay up ever since although they haven’t challenged for a European spot. The club has been known to go for players who are experienced and provide solid play. The problem with that type of strategy is that your team gets old. The average age of the players on Chievo is over 29-years old. The club is trying to change that formula but it is a slow process.
The Flying Donkeys have not lived up to their nickname recently, as their style of play has been slow and prodding. They don’t score a ton of goals but perhaps getting Gaudino and Garritano will change that. Gaudino really never hit his potential with Bayern so Chievo is getting him cheaply. They are hoping he starts to deliver this season and Garritano also has the potential to upgrade the offense of Chievo this season.
Chievo was 6-8 at home last season with five draws, being outscored by a combined 30-25. They were 6-11 on the road last season with two draws, being outscored by a combined 31-18.
Chievo is not a challenger to any of the top teams in Serie A but they do have enough talent to break into the top 10. Whether that happens or not depends upon some of the young players fulfilling their potential. Chievo has to be much better at home than they were a year ago, as winning just six times is not going to get the job done.
Chievo has the look of a middle of the table team in 2017-2018. They have too many question marks to contend for a European spot but they probably have enough overall talent to avoid any relegation danger. A finish between 12th place and 15th place seems the most likely finish for the Flying Donkeys in 2017-2018.
