Benevento will play in Serie A for the first time ever in 2017-2018, as they won promotion last year by winning in the Serie B playoffs. It won’t be easy for Benevento to stay up this season but they do have an exciting scorer in 30-year-old Fabio Ceravolo who scored 21 league goals last season. Most people are predicting that the team will struggle this season but owner Oreste Vigorito said to the media that his team can compete. “I am proud and guarantee we will not be in over our heads in Serie A.”

Odds To Win Serie A: +5000 (Field)
Benevento is no threat to win Serie A, as their focus will simply be on avoiding relegation. It will not be an easy task, but at least the team can score, as they scored 56 goals a year ago. If Benevento is to avoid relegation this season they will need another big year from Ceravolo and they will need to improve their defense.

Benevento 2017-18 Predictions
Surviving for the promoted teams is rarely easy in Serie A, but Crotone pulled it off last year so it can be done. The problem for Benevento is that they were not a great team last year in Serie B, as they finished in fifth place and advanced through the playoffs. It is the first time in their 88-year history that they made Serie A.
Manager Marco Baroni doesn’t have an easy task, but not many people expect the team to survive, so at least he doesn’t have a ton of pressure. He also has a good goal scorer in Cervavolo. The club was also able to get Lorenzo Venuti on loan from Fiorentina.
Benevento doesn’t have a ton of money to spend so they focused on loans in the off-season. They brought back George Puscas back from Inter and they got Danilo Cataldi from Lazio, Alexis Zapata from Udinese and Venuti from Fiorentina.
Benevento will need virtually everything to go right to finish in 17th place and avoid relegation this season. They will need Cervavolo to prove he can score at the top level, they need Amato Ciciretti to play extremely well, Cataldo needs to make an impact and they need to avoid injuries. The starting lineup for Benevento should be Cragno, Letizia, Camponese, Lucioni, Lopez, Chisbah, Cataldi, Ciciretti, Cataldi, Falco and Ceravolo.
Benevento went 13-2 at home last season with six draws, outscoring opponents by a combined 31-14. They were 5-10 on the road with six draws, being outscored by a combined margin of 28-25.
Benevento is going to struggle in 2017-2018. They simply don’t have enough talent to compete with the top teams in Serie A. The question is whether they can do enough to avoid relegation. History is not on their side, as most promoted teams have struggled lately and even last season it was a minor miracle that Crotone survived. Benevento can compete with some of the teams in Serie A but keep in mind that Benevento was not a great team last season in Serie B, finishing 13 points behind SPAL.
The most likely scenario for Benevento in 2017-2018 is relegation. Competing for 17th place is the best that the club can hope for and even that seems unlikely.
