Werder Bremen finished in eighth place last season, as they finished 13-15 with six draws. Manager Alexander Nouri did a nice job a year ago, as he led the team to an 11-game unbeaten streak that almost got them into European football. It won’t be easy for Nouri in 2017-2018, as the team cut costs and brought in very few players of note. Bremen does have a proven scorer in Max Kruse but they don’t have a lot of other proven scorers and they are a very poor defensive club.
Werder Bremen Bundesliga Futures Odds
Odds To Win Bundesliga: +2500 (Field)
Werder Bremen is not a threat to win the Bundesliga, as they are listed as part of the field at +2500. They had a very poor off-season so they could actually be a team that takes a big fall this season. Just how far the team falls is the question.

Werder Bremen 2017-18 Predictions
Bremen has a solid scorer in Kruse who had 15 goals last season but they will miss Gnabry who scored 11 times last year. Helping Kruse out this season could be Jerome Gondorf who comes over from SV Darmstadt 98. Bremen could also use a resurgence from Aron Johannsson who has just three goals in his last two seasons and from Florian Kainz who didn’t do much after coming over from Rapid Vienna.
Last year was really a Jekyll and Hyde season for Werder Bremen, as they started terribly and finished great. Which team will show up in 2017-2018? It could be that the team struggles this season, as they are weaker offensively without Gnabry and Kruse could do something dumb at any moment.
Alexander Nouri is a good manager but his hands are somewhat tied as the club simply didn’t spend much money in the off-season. Nouri is going to try and play a three man defense with Niklas Moisander, Milos Veljkovic and Lamine Sane first choice but that may not last simply because the team is not going to score as many goals as they did a year ago.
Nouri was able to play a wide open style last season because he had the scorers but now he doesn’t. Bremen scored 61 goals last season but they gave up 64 goals, worst in the league. The team was 8-8 at home with one draw, outscoring opponents by a combined 28-24. They were 5-7 on the road with five draws, being outscored by a combined 40-33.
Bremen is not a challenger to any of the top teams in the Bundesliga, as they simply don’t play good enough defense to contend. The question is whether or not the team has enough talent to finish in the upper half of the table or if they could drop down into relegation danger in 2017-2018. The team has just one proven scorer in Kruse and if he doesn’t score the team could be a major disappointment this season. They may not fall into a relegation fight but they might make their fans nervous before all is said and done this season.
