Hannover 96 is back in the Bundesliga after spending last season in the second division. Hannover changed coaches last season, as Daniel Stendel was replaced by Andre Breitenreiter. The switch definitely helped, as Hannover finished the season with six wins and three draws. Can Hannover carry over the momentum from last season and make their mark in the Bundesliga this season? It is definitely possible, as they return all of their key players from a year ago including striker Martin Harnik who had 178 goals last season.

Odds To Win Bundesliga: +2500 (Field)

Hannover is no real threat to win the Bundesliga, as they are listed as part of the field. The question is whether or not the team can avoid relegation. It is definitely possible, as Hannover will come into the season full of confidence and it is not like the middle and bottom of the table teams in the Bundesliga are that strong.

What's New?

The team added Tom Baller from Borussia Monchengladbach, Yousef Emghames from Bayern Munich, Michael Esser from Darmstadt, Julian Korb from Borussia Monchengladbach, Matthias Ostrzolek from Hamburg and Pirmin Schwegler from Hoffenheim.

The best newcomer for Hannover this season is probably Schwegler who is a solid veteran of the Bundesliga. Perhaps Ostrzolek can show more this season but he wasn’t that great for Hamburg. Perhaps the addition of Julian Korb will be a good one.

Hannover also made a late signing, as they got Brazilian striker Jonathas from Rubin Kazan. He is the biggest purchase in club history and he could be a key player for Hannover as they attempt to stay up this season.

What's Gone?

The team lost Andre Hoffmann to Fortuna Dusseldorf, Marko Maric to Hoffenheim, Artur Sobiech was released, and they lost Stefan Strindberg to FK Krasnodar.

Hannover 2017-18 Predictions

Hannover is definitely better than last year’s bottom feeders Ingolstadt and Darmstadt.  Hannover has some talent but they don’t have much depth, so an injury could be crippling. There is no question that Harnik can score goals and Waldemar Anton looks poised for a breakout season.

Hannover is going to get a lot of support from their fans this season, as they return to the Bundesliga. They were sold out for their home opener but not everyone is happy, as Martin Kind is trying to take over majority control of the club. Manager Andre Breitenreiter is concerned about fan support, as he said to the Daily Guardian, “We need the team and the fans to be a unit. My boys deserve to be supported, but with 34 away games in a season … without the support of the fans it will not be enough.”

Hannover 96 will be an interesting team to follow in the Bundesliga in 207-2018. They are definitely not the average bottom feeder that comes from the second division into the top division. There is a reasonable chance for success this season for Hannover, as they have decent goal scorers and they play solid defense, plus they have a good manager in Breitenreiter. The question is depth, as Hannover is not a big spending club and they can’t afford any of their key players to suffer injury.

Hannover is probably not getting enough respect in terms of Bundesliga odds for the upcoming season. They are not going to win the league, but they do look good enough to avoid relegation and if everything goes right they might even be able to challenge for an upper level finish in the Bundesliga in 2017-2018.
