Borussia Dortmund won the DFB-Cup last season but overall it was a disappointing season for the club, as they finished 3rd in the Bundesliga. They were no threat to Bayern Munich, but they were also in no real danger of missing out on a Champions League spot. The poor overall season cost Thomas Tuchel his job, as he was replaced by Peter Bosz who had been at Ajax. Dortmund has high hopes of being improved this season, as they have been able to hold onto Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they have added Maximilian Philipp and they have a healthy Mario Gotze. The only concern is replacing Ousmane Dembele who left for Barcelona.
Borussia Dortmund Bundesliga Futures Odds
Odds To Win Bundesliga: +700
There are only two other teams given much of a chance to contend with Bayern Munich for the league title and one of those teams is Dortmund, as they are listed at +700. The other team is RB Leipzig. Dortmund has enough talent to contend this season, but realistically their best hope is to finish in second place, as Bayern still looks to be a notch above everyone else.

Borussia Dortmund 2017-18 Predictions
Does Dortmund have enough to give Bayern some serious competition in the Bundesliga this season? The additions of Toprak and Dahoud look to be good ones and so far the team has been able to hold off teams from getting top scorer Aubameyang. It also helps that Gotze is back and healthy.
Bosz brings in a new style for Dortmund and we don’t yet know how it will all work out. In theory, Dortmund should be better on offense, as Bosz brings in an attacking style but we’ll see. There is no question that they have to hang onto Aubameyang who scored 31 goals last season. He got a lot of help last season from Christian Pulisic who set him up on a regular basis.
Dortmund thought that they were safe in terms of second place in the Bundesliga but that changed last year with the emergence of Leipzig. Dortmund had to hold off Hoffenheim last year just to finish in third place and an automatic Champions League spot.
Realistically the only two teams that can challenge Dortmund for second place this season are RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim. Dortmund will have to fight through a tough schedule this season that has them playing in the Champions League and Supercup in addition to the DFB-Pokal.
Most people don’t believe that any team has enough to challenge Bayern this season, but Dortmund at least can make a challenge. They felt confident enough in Pulisic to let Dembele go to Barcelona. Replacing a player like Dembele usually is tough to do, as he had 10 goals and 22 assists in all competitions last season, but the team believes Pulisic is more than up to the task of replacing Dembele’s production. It also helps that Dortmund added Philipp from Freiburg.
Dortmund got a boatload of money from Barcelona from the Dembele transfer and they should be able to put that money to good use. In the short term, the loss of Dembele might be felt a little bit but in the long run, Dortmund should be just fine.
Dortmund should be able to finish in the top 3 again this season and get a Champions League spot but getting to Bayern for the top spot is probably out of reach for the team in 2017-2018.
