FC Augsburg did just enough a year ago to avoid relegation but they need to improve their goal scoring in 2017-2018 if they hope to make any progress this season. The team did add Michael Gregoritsch from Hamburg and they are hoping he will add some goal scoring but the biggest key for Augsburg could be the health of Alfred Finnbogason. He couldn’t stay healthy last season and Augsburg badly missed his scoring. If he stays in the lineup, then Augsburg has a good chance to be improved.

Odds To Win Bundesliga: +2500 (Field)

Augsburg is no threat to win the Bundesliga in 2017-2018, as they are listed as part of the field with odds of +2500. Augsburg just barely avoided relegation last season but if they can stay healthy they should not be in any danger this season.

What's New?

Augsburg added Sergio Cordova from Caracas, Fabian Giefer from Schalke, Michael Gregoritsch from Hamburg, Marcel Heller from Darmstadt and Rani Khedira who was a Free Agent.

The addition of Khedira is an interesting one, as he is the younger brother of Sami Khedira who plays for Juventus. Rani played in Stuttgart’s youth academy and made his first appearance in the Bundesliga in 2013. He joined Leipzig but didn’t see much action and he left on a free transfer. "FCA managed to stay up after an exciting end to the season. Now I want to help the club to continue to establish itself in the Bundesliga and take the next steps in my career," Khedira said on the Augsburg website.

What's Gone?

Augsburg lost Albian Ajeti to St. Gallen, Halil Altintop to Slavia Prague, Dominik Kohr to Bayer Leverkusen and Tim Matavz to Vitesse.

FC Augsburg 2017-18 Predictions

Augsburg has been in the Bundesliga since 2011 but it was a little scary last season for the team, as they were in danger for most of the season. The team lost Paul Verhaegh in the offseason but manager Manuel Baum has added some good talent. They also are hoping for continued improvement from Kevin Danso who was developed through Academy.

Augsburg was actually pretty fortunate to avoid relegation last season, as they didn’t play well for much of the year. They didn’t take advantage of their home games, as they were just 5-6-6 at home, being outscored by a combined 25-22. They were 4-8 on the road but they did pick up five road draws and those five points were extremely important in the grand scheme of things. How they managed to get four wins and five draws while scoring just 13 road goals is amazing, as they gave up 26 road goals.

Augsburg doesn’t have enough talent to challenge any of the top teams in the Bundesliga. They probably don’t even have enough to make a run at a European spot. The concern for Augsburg will once again be avoiding relegation. The team was probably a bit fortunate last season to pick up as many points as they did considering they scored only 35 goals and allowed 51.

The good news for Augsburg is that the bottom of the Bundesliga looks to be very weak and Augsburg should be able to pick up enough victories against the bottom feeders to avoid relegation. Staying healthy is a big key, as they need a lot more from Finnbogason and getting some of their younger players like Danso and Khedira to produce would also help. Finishing just outside of the top 10 seems the most likely scenario for Augsburg in 2017-2018.
