Toulouse will look to improve upon their 13th place finish of a year ago but it won’t be easy, as they lost one of their top players in the off-season, Martin Braithwaite to Middlesbrough. Scoring was a major problem for Toulouse last season, as they scored just 37 goals and it may not be any better in 2017-2018 without Braithwaite on the club. The team did add Yaya Sanogo from Arsenal and they are counting on him to pick up some of the slack.

Odds To Win French Ligue 1: +50000
Toulouse is not a threat to win the league, as they are listed with odds of +50000. They are a middle of the table team that is hoping to finish in the top half. Ligue 1 looks to be wide open this season after PSG but Toulouse probably doesn’t have enough overall talent to compete for a top ten position.

What's New?
The team added Corentin Jean from AS Monaco, Zinedine Machach on loan from Olympique de Marseille, Steven Fortes from Havre AC, Yaya Sanogo from Arsenal, Gianelli Imbula on loan from Stoke City, Max Gradel on loan from AFC Bournemouth and they were hoping to get Serge Aurier from Tottenham. Toulouse is hoping that the addition of Sanogo will be enough to boost their offense, but he has not been a reliable scorer in his career.
What's Gone?
The team lost Yrondu Musavu-King to Udinese, Tongo Doumbia to Dinamo Zagreb, Dodi Lukebakio to RSC Anderlecht, Martin Braithwaite to Middlesbrough, Oscar Trejo to Rayo Vallecano, Pantxi Sirieix retired, Uros Spajic to RSC Anderlecht, Odsonne Edouard to Paris Saint-Germain, Dusan Veskovac, Jessy Pi on loan to Stade Brestois, Dominik Furman to Wisla Plock and Aleksandar Pesic to Red Star Belgrade.
Toulouse 2017-18 Predictions
Toulouse played a lot of tight games last season and finished about where you would expect them to in 13th place. They were a decent home team going 8-5 with 6 draws, outscoring opponents by a combined 28-18 but on the road the team struggled, going 2-9 with 8 draws, outscored by a combined 23-9. It is obvious by looking at those numbers that Toulouse is going to struggle to score goals again this season and that should mean a lot of low scoring games.
Toulouse doesn’t have a lot of goal scoring talent, so they will need to play solid defense again this season. Perhaps Jimmy Durmaz can take over some of the scoring load from the departed Braithwaite but he will need help. Sanogo would be a good candidate but he has been unreliable in the past and he may be hard to trust.
Toulouse scored a total of 37 goals last season and only four other teams in Ligue 1 scored fewer, so they need to find some answers up front. The good news is that the defense for Toulouse was solid, as they allowed just 41goals. That was better than all but four teams in the league. It is pretty easy to see what the strategy will be for Toulouse this season and that will be a defensive style that counterattacks.
Toulouse is not good enough to contend for a Champions League spot but it is not out of the realm of possibility that they could contend for a Europa League spot. They will probably fall short and finish somewhere in the middle of the table in 2017-2018 but they could at least make things interesting for their fans for a while.
