Lille is coming off a disappointing season a year ago, as they finished in 11th place. They made a late season run to stay out of the relegation zone, but going from 60 points to 46 points was a major drop. It may not be any better for the club in 2017-2018, as they lost fullback Sebastien Corchia and forward Rony Lopes. The team did add Pepe from Angers and Malcuit from St Etienne but neither player inspires a lot of confidence. It is hard to see anything other than another lower level table finish for Lille this season.

Lille is no threat to the top teams in Ligue 1, so the question is whether or not they are a team that could be in relegation danger. At first glance, it would seem unlikely that Lille would be a team that would be in a relegation fight but a closer look reveals a team that did very little to improve from last season, and in fact looks weaker.

Lille 2017-18 Predictions
Lille spent a lot of money in the off-season but whether the money was well spent is the question. The team has a new owner in Gerard Lopez who has a lot of money and a new sporting director in Luis Campos. They also have a new manager in Marcelo Bielsa. The signings of Thiago Maia and Luiz Araujo are interesting, as both players have potential but they are also young players with a lot of risk.
Lille has some players who should be able to score and put pressure on opposing defenses, as Nicolas Pepe, Anwar El Ghazi and Nicolas De Preville have offensive ability. The worry is that Pepe is overrated and not worth the money the club spent on him. The same thing could be said of De Preville, who has rarely delivered on his potential.
Lille should be a club that contends for a Europa League spot, as they have an owner who will spend money but that may not happen in 2017-2018. The club looks out of synch, as many of the players brought in don’t look that great. Lille shouldn’t be in any relegation danger, as Lopez will spend whatever is necessary to bring in reinforcements but it is still hard to like the current roster. A 12th or 13th place finish looks to be the most likely scenario for Lille in 2017-2018.
