Angers finished 10 points clear of the relegation zone last season in Ligue 1, as they ended up in 12th place. The team made a number of good off-season moves including signing Enzo Crivelli, Loic Puyo and Wilfried Kanga but the team did lose a lot of depth players, so injuries could be a major concern for the 2017-2018 season. The goal for Angers will be to avoid any relegation danger and make a push for an upper table finish.

Odds To Win French Ligue 1: +50000

Angers is no threat to win Ligue 1 but that can be said about almost all of the teams in the league, as PSG is the clear favorite, with Monaco and Nice a notch below. Angers was a decent team at home last season, winning eight times but they did struggle on the road. Angers will need to pick up more away points in 2017-2018 if they are to contend for a Top 10 position.

What's New?

The team added Enzo Crivelli from France Girondins de Bordeaux, Wilfried Kanga from Paris Saint-Germain, Lassana Coulibaly from France SC Bastia, Saliou Ciss from Valenciennes FC, Baptiste Guillaume from France Lille OSC, Loic Puyo from AS Nancy, Angelo Fulgini from Valenciennes FC and  Goran Karanovic from FC Sochaux-Montbeliard.

The addition of Crivelli could be a key one, as he scored 10 goals last year. He is being counted on to replace Famara Diedhiou who went to Bristol City.

What's Gone?

The team lost Kevin Berigaud to Montpellier HSC, Famara Diedhiou to Bristol City, Dickson Nwakaeme, Yoane Wissa on loan to AC Ajaccio, Cheikh N’Doye to Birmingham City, Nicolas Pepe to Lille OSC, Pablo Martinez to RC Strasbourg, Jonathan Bamba o AS Saint-Etienne, Fode Dore on loan to Clermont Foot, Issa Cissokho to Genoa, Gabriel Mutombo on loan to France US Orleans, Mathias Serin on loan to France USL Dunkerque, Madih Talal to Angers SCO and they also lost Jamel Saihi.

There is no question that Angers will miss Diedhiou who went to Bristol City for $5.3 million. Diedhiou scored nine goals in 36 games last season for Angers.

Angers 2017-18 Predictions

There is little doubt that Angers is going to be focused more on defense this season. They lost a solid goal scorer in Diedhiou, so they will need to tighten up on the back end and not give up as many scoring chances. Angers went 8-6 at home last season with five draws and outscored opponents by a combined 23-17. The team struggled on road, going 5-12 with 2 draws. They were outscored in away games by a combined 32-17.  That has to change if Angers is to improve upon last year’s 12th place finish.

Angers is counting heavily on Crivelli to produce on the same level as Diedhiou. That is definitely possible, as Crivelli looks to be a talented player and he is just 22-years old. Angers has a number of young players that they are counting on in addition to Crivelli. Angelo Fulgini is just 21-years old and is a key player in the midfield and Baptiste Guillaume is just 22-years and an important player upfront.

Angers will be an interesting team to follow in 2017-2018. They have some young, talented players who can score and if they tighten their defense, they might challenge for a Top 10 finish this season. The key, of course, will be avoiding injury, as Angers has very little depth and very little experience beyond their key starters.
