One of the newcomers to Ligue 1 in 2017-2018 is Amiens who finished second in Ligue 2 last season. It is the first time in the 116-year history that Amiens will be playing in Ligue 1. It may be difficult for Amiens to stay up, as they did very little to upgrade their team in the off-season but just getting to Ligue 1 is considered a success for Amiens. The two additions of note for Amiens are Prince-Desir Gouano and Mathieu Bodmer. Amiens is going to struggle to score goals this season, so if they are to have any chance to avoid relegation they will have to play excellent defense.

Amiens is no threat at all to win Ligue 1, so the focus is on avoiding relegation. The team finished second in Ligue 2 last season in a very competitive race, as six teams finished within three points of each other at the top of the table. Amiens scored 56 goals and allowed just 38 and they had almost as much success on the road as they did at home.

Amiens 2017-18 Predictions

There is little doubt that Amiens is going to struggle this season, as it is their first-ever in Ligue 1. The team will probably be in a relegation fight for most of the season. The good news for Amiens is that Ligue 1 looks weaker this season except for powerhouse PSG.

Last season Amiens scored 56 goals and allowed 38 but that was in Ligue 2. They were 10-5 at home with 4 draws, outscoring the opposition by a combined margin of 29-15. They were 9-5-5 on the road, but only outscored opponents by a combined 27-23.

Amiens is going to struggle to score goals this season, as they simply don’t have a lot of capable scorers. Perhaps they can get something from Moussa Konate but he will need help.  Amiens will have to focus on defense and play a counter attacking style and take few chances. It is not a pretty style of football, but Amiens doesn’t have the talent to match up with many of the teams in Ligue 1.

A relegation battle seems almost assured for Amiens in their first trip to Ligue 1. The best Amiens can realistically hope for is to still be in the relegation fight late in the season because there is a real chance the team will be buried by the next calendar year with no chance at survival.

A last place finish is definitely possible in 2017-2018 for Amiens. It is hard to see the team finishing outside of the relegation zone this season, so a 19th or 20th place finish seems the most likely scenario for Amiens this season.
