West Brom is coming off a top-half finish, so optimism should be high for the Baggies heading into 2016-2017 but West Brom lost their captain to Stoke City and they did very little in the transfer market. Oddsmakers are not excited about the chances of West Brom this season, as they set the point total for the team at 41.5. That would put West Brom in relegation danger, as the 17th place team in the Premier League last season had 40 points. Keep in mind that West Brom picked up just five points in their last 12 matches a year ago. Is West Brom a team that could be in a relegation fight this season?

Odds To Win Premier League: +6600 (Field)
Odds To Be Relegated: +500
Total Points Over/Under: 41.5
West Brom finished in 10th place last season but you almost have to qualify that finish a little bit because there were 10 teams that finished within six points of each other. The Baggies were only six points in front of 17th place Watford. Oddsmakers don’t like what West Brom did in the off-season, as the win total for the team was set at just 41.5. There could be a lot of value in taking West Brom to be relegated at +500.

What's New?
West Brom brought in Jay Rodriguez from Southampton, Ahmed Hegazi on loan from Al Ahly and Yuning Zhang from Vitesse.
Rodriguez was in good form in the preseason and he has high hopes for a big season with the Baggies. "I set myself personal targets but it's also about taking each game as it comes and trying to do your best every time," he said to the Birmingham Mail. "The main thing for me is a goal tally and scoring as many as I can. I've got a figure in mind.”
What's Gone?
The Baggies lost Craig Gardner to Birmingham City, Darren Fletcher to Stoke City and Zuning Zhang on loan to Werder Bremen. The big loss is Fletcher as he played really well for West Brom last season and was the clear leader of the team.
West Bromwich Albion 2017-18 Predictions
The pressure on Tony Pulis could heat up if West Brom struggles early in the season. The Baggies finished very poorly a year ago but ownership still believes in Pulis, as they signed him to a new two-year contract that runs until 2019.
Pulis will have to do a lot of work this season, as the addition of Rodriguez is the only one that might work out but there is no one to replace Fletcher who was the clear leader last season for the Baggies.
West Brom has not won a trophy since the 1968 FA Cup and it seems unlikely that will change this season. Pulis has tried to sound optimistic. “First and foremost we have to maintain Premier League status,” he said to the Birmingham Mail. “We’ve got to then do well in the cup competitions. “That’s a big, big target. Everyone at the club wants that.”
Despite the optimism by Pulis, there is not a great deal to like about West Brom. They badly need Rodriguez to have a good season if they are to have success. He is the only signing of note and the Baggies need his goal production. If he has a big season then West Brom could stay above the relegation zone and feel safe. If he struggles, or gets hurt, the Baggies could end up in a relegation fight.
Oddsmakers think the Baggies are going to struggle in 2017-2018, as the point total was set at 41.5. That number seems about right and would put West Brom in the range of 15th to 17th place. Avoiding relegation is not a given but the Baggies will probably do just enough to survive this season.
