Crystal Palace is going to have a new look this season, as gone is Sam Allardyce and in is Frank de Boer. It will be interesting to see how de Boer does considering he was sacked at Inter Milan last season. De Boer led Ajax to four straight titles from 2010 to 2014 and he prefers to play a 4-3-3 system but all indications are that he is going to run a 3-4-3 with Palace. De Boer is trusting in young players, including Ruben Loftus-Cheek who the team got on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Crystal Palace is not going to win the league or finish in the Top 4, so the focus is on whether or not they will avoid relegation.

Crystal Palace finished in 14th place last season, as they had 41 points. They were not that far clear of the relegation zone, as they finished seven points ahead of Hull City. They were also just four points away from a top half of the table finish, so anything is possible for Crystal for the 2017-2018 season.

What's New?
The two newcomers of note for Crystal Palace are Loftus-Cheek and Jairo Riedewald. Fans are excited about the addition of Loftus-Cheek but the player who could be a difference maker is Riedewald. If Palace is going to take the next step to being an upper level team they need to be better on defense and that is where Riedewald comes in. De Boer targeted him from Ajax and there is no question De Boer wants to focus on defense first .
“At Ajax, my team always conceded fewest goals,” he said. “I am good at [coaching] that, and hopefully we can see that at Crystal Palace. We do it all step by step. It starts there.”
Palace had some good moments in the preseason, as Wilf Zaha looked really good. De Boer has said that he intends to build the team around Zaha who seems to have picked up where he left off last season. He has teamed well with Benteke and some of the other young players including Lokilo have looked good.
What's Gone?
Palace lost Kwesi Appiah, Ezekiel Fryers, Steve Mandanda, Fraizer Campbell, Jonathan Benteke, Mathieu Flamini and Joe Ledley. The only loss of note could be Mandanda simply because no one has stepped up to replace him.
Crystal Palace 2017-18 Predictions
Oddsmakers think Palace is going to survive this season, as they set the points total for the team at 42.5. That number might actually be too low, as Palace had 41 points last season when not much went right for a large part of the season. The new 3-4-3 system put in by de Boer seems to be a good fit for Palace.
Palace should have been better than they were a year ago, as most people believe they underachieved. Palace still needs a goal keeper and a decent centre-half but they have some talent in the midfield and on defense and they should be able to score enough goals to win a few high scoring games.
Palace did not play well at home last season, losing 11 times, so if they improve at home they should be safe in terms of relegation and an upper table finish is not out of the question. The key could be the addition of a quality goal keeper and the team has been linked with Adrian. Palace has reportedly made a bid for Adrian who was at West Ham on a season-long loan from Manchester City. If Palace can get Adrian and he gives them quality play in goal then a 45 or 50 point season in 2017-2018 is not out of reach.
