Brighton & Hove Albion will be in the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2017-2018. The Seagulls under manager Chris Hughton have made progress in recent seasons and last year they finally hit the jackpot, as they finished second in the Championship to earn promotion to the Premier League. Brighton heads into their first season in the Premier League with most of their players from last season but they will have to win without goalkeeper David Stockdale who is now with Birmingham. Oddsmakers give Brighton a decent chance to avoid relegation this season, as they set the point total for the team for 2017-2018 at 36.5.

Odds To Be Relegated: +139
Total Points Over/Under: 36.5
Brighton is not going to win the league, so the focus is on whether or not they will be relegated. Normally when a team goes from the Championship to the Premier League they are favored to get relegated. That is not the case with Brighton, as they are given a decent chance to stay up. Their point total of 36.5 tells you that oddsmakers think Brighton can survive in 2017-2018.

English Premier League
FA Cup
EFL Cup
Brighton will get to play in the FA Cup and in the EFL Cup this season but their focus will be on the Premier League, as they attempt to avoid relegation. Brighton was very good defensively last season and playing defense is the best way to avoid relegation.
What's New?
Brighton didn’t make a lot of moves but they did add Pascal Gross who is very good at set pieces. They also added his Ingolstadt teammate, Markus Suttner. Goss should help out Anthony Knockaert get more space. Brighton also added Mat Ryan from Valencia and he will be under a lot of pressure, as he replaces Stockdale. Not to be left out as a key addition is Davy Propper who they got from PSV. Brighton also gets Izzy Brown on loan from Chelsea. “He gives us good scope in the front areas, he’s developing and hopefully he can develop here,” Hughton said to the media about Brown.
What's Gone?
Brighton will have to replace Stockdale who is with Birmingham; Vegard Forren had left for Molde and Chris O’Grady is now at Chesterfield. Brighton also loaned out Oliver Norwood to Fulham.
Brighton 2017-18 Predictions
Brighton is not satisfied just to make the Premier League, they went to stay there. Chairman Tony Bloom has put a lot of money into the team and his efforts have finally been rewarded. Brighton has some exciting players in Glenn Murray and Knockaert but they have to get excellent goal keeping from Ryan if they are to win.
Bloom said to The Guardian that he thinks his team can hold its own in the Premier League. “We must not be in fear, we have got a very good side and we are going to be even better next season and we know that we have the inner strength to at least hold our own.”
Bloom wants more than just one year of success. “We very much hope it will not be just for one season but our aim is to be there for many years to come.”
There is a lot of optimism at Brighton but it won’t be easy for this team to avoid relegation. The biggest key will be the play of Ryan in goal. He simply has to be great because Brighton is not going to be scoring goals on a regular basis as they did in the Championship. It also doesn’t help that Knockaert begins the season dealing with an injury. Brighton will also have to avoid long losing streaks, something they have not been very good at doing in recent years.
It could come down to the final few games to determine whether or not Brighton will survive. The point total of 36.5 may be a little bit too optimistic, as Brighton figures to be in a relegation fight all season.
