The Tennessee Titans are the "en vogue" team in the AFC South at this point. They came out of nowhere to win nine games last season, and they only lost out on the division title because Marcus Mariota got hurt at the end of the year. With Mariota returning from a broken leg and the rest of this division seemingly having more questions than answer, the Titans feel like the deserving favorites to win this division.

Tennessee Titans Super Bowl Odds

Super Bowl Odds: +4000

AFC Championship Odds: +2000

AFC South Odds: +200

Odds Titans Make Playoffs: +100

Titans Regular Season Win Total: 8.5

It's going to be a tight season in the AFC South for sure. With the virtually identical schedule of the three teams at the top, the Titans, Texans and Colts will likely merely be separated by the games they play against each other. If any of the three can steal a road win against the other two as Houston did at Indianapolis last season, that team will very likely win the division title.

The Titans are still young for sure, but they are definitely on the upward swing. Will this be the year they crack the barrier and make the postseason for the first time since 2008? It's a 50/50 proposition according to the oddsmakers.

The Tennessee Titans Will Be a Success If…

... They can get into December and still have a shot at the AFC South title

The Titans had a strange end to their season last year. They beat the Broncos at home, Chiefs on the road and Texans at home, but in the middle of that, they were crushed by the Jaguars to end any chance they had at winning the AFC South.

This year, the schedule plays out without much reprieve relatively early on. The team only plays against teams that finished with at least .500 records in the first half of the campaign, and the away games include duels against the up and coming Jaguars, the two-time AFC South champion Texans and the Dolphins, who were in the playoffs last year. Is an 0-5 start to the season really out of the question when you think about it?

The fact of the matter is 5-7 through 12 games might be good enough to keep the Titans in it. They finish up with the Cardinals, 49ers, Rams and Jaguars, and all four of those games should be wins on paper. The trick is getting to that point. The talent is here, but this schedule is a lot more brutal than it probably should be, especially with the NFC West games all getting stacked at the end of the season.

The Tennessee Titans Will Be a Failure If…

… Mariota fails to continue to have confidence as a runner after breaking his leg last year.

Success and failure in Tennessee is really predicated on Mariota at this point. The franchise has built a pretty good defense around him, and the ground game with Derrick Henry and DeMarco Murray will once again surely be one of the best in the NFL. With Mariota playing at a top 10 level, the Titans are Super Bowl contenders. Without him, they still could be relatively successful, but their ceiling is what the Texans have been the past couple seasons.

Mariota is most dangerous when he's moving around in the pocket. If he loses that ability or the confidence he has in that ability after breaking his leg last year, this is going to be a huge concern. Can Mariota really evolve into a pocket passer? Colin Kaepernick largely didn't. Mariota is awfully similar in build.

Tennessee Titans 2017 Predictions

We think it's going to take one more year in Tennessee to get this team to the top of the AFC South. The Texans are going to do just enough to win this division once again, and it wouldn't be all that shocking if the Colts finish in front of the Titans, too.

But in the end, we love some of the moves this team has made. Corey Davis has the look of a legit No. 1 receiver, and bringing in Eric Decker to flank him was a low-risk, high-reward situation for a team that badly needs some depth at the wide receiver position.

Tennessee's schedule is just too tough this year to get beyond .500, but with a couple more pieces to the puzzle added in the NFL Draft in 2018, we think this club has the most staying power in the long run in the AFC South.
