Will the real Denver Broncos please stand up? It's easy to forget that this team won the Super Bowl just two seasons ago, especially with as poorly as things went last year when the team ultimately didn't even come close to making the postseason. John Elway believes that he has a legitimate Super Bowl contender because of his defense. But without better quarterback play and a better locker room than what existed a year ago, this team could struggle to finish .500.
Denver Broncos Super Bowl Odds
Super Bowl Odds: +2500
AFC Championship Odds: +1300
AFC West Odds: +320
Odds Broncos Make Playoffs: +200
Broncos Regular Season Win Total: 8.5
The Denver defense has carried this team over the course of the last couple seasons. It's a plan that generally doesn't work in the long run for franchises, and it didn't work last year when Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch effectively put together some of the worst quarterback play in the NFL.
That said, the Broncos are still supremely talented. Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas make up one of the best receiving duos in the NFL, and even with Demarcus Ware retiring this offseason, this is still one of the best defenses in the NFL. Adding Domata Peko will only make this unit scarier.
The Super Bowl odds, though, are optimistic at best at 25 to 1. The AFC West is the toughest division in the NFL, and there's a tremendous chance that Denver will have to win three road games to get to the Super Bowl – and that's only if it can get into the postseason.

The Denver Broncos Will Be a Success If…
... The combination of C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles can take pressure off of Siemian and/or Lynch.
The running game has been so bad in Denver for a long time. A lot of this, of course, has nothing to do with the tailbacks. Play at both of the offensive tackle spots was a disaster last season, and that caused Siemian and Lynch to get hit far more often than they should have, particularly in two games against the Chiefs.
But bringing in Charles could help out this offense. Charles is a huge question mark considering the fact that he's coming off of a couple lost seasons due to injury. He's still got wheels and can surely have an impact on a game, but he isn't carrying the ball 20+ times any longer. But maybe he can do just enough to get Anderson going once again. Regardless, we think these two men have to rush for 1,500 yards this year to give the Broncos a serious chance of contending.
The Denver Broncos Will Be a Failure If…
… They get off to a slow start to the season.
We know what losing bred last year in this locker room. It was a disaster from the get go. The Broncos were a disaster in every sense of the word with all of the in-fighting that was happening in the locker room. The defense made no bones about the fact that the offense was a big problem, and the unit was tired of trying to pick up the pieces for a broken unit on the other side of the ball.
If we're being honest, nothing has really changed. The offensive line woes haven't been solved yet, and bringing in Charles won't change the whole landscape of this unit. Maybe getting rid of Gary Kubiak and replacing him with Vance Joseph will help, especially with Mike McCoy calling the plays.
Maybe the culture can change the results on the field. If not, this could be a long year in the Rockies.
Denver Broncos 2017 Predictions
This has been an interesting team to follow ever since John Elway took over the club's operations. First, the running game carried Tim Tebow. Then Peyton Manning carried the defense. Then the defense carried Peyton Manning. And then it all blew up.
We just don't see anything that makes us change our mind. The team that went 3-5 in the second half of the season is the one that we think is going to manifest itself in 2017. This is a last place team as we see it in spite of the fact that this defense is still one of the most feared in the NFL. The Raiders and Chargers are definitely improved teams from last year, and the Chiefs haven't taken any appreciable steps backwards. If Denver can't improve from last year, this could be a 5-11 team.
