The Cleveland Browns aren't making any bones about the fact that they aren't competing for a Super Bowl any time in the near future. They've got the right idea to try to get back to a competitive level, amassing draft picks and the most talented players they can add. They've added to their core in free agency in some crucial spots along the offensive line, and they're positioning themselves to be a franchise quarterback away from legitimately competing. That all sounds good for now, but 2017 is probably going to be a tougher year for Hue Jackson and the Browns since, after all, they still don't have their quarterback of the future in all likelihood.

Super Bowl Odds: +30000

AFC Championship Odds: +15000

AFC North Odds: +10000

Browns Regular Season Win Total: 4.5

The 2017 season isn't about competing for the Browns, and they're very aware of that. That's why they're the longest shot on the board to win the Super Bowl at 300 to 1.

However, at least Cleveland doesn't have the lowest regular season win total in the NFL this year; that distinction belongs to the Jets. The Browns, though, only have a season win total to beat of 4.5.

If you think the Browns can make some real steps in the right direction this season to go from 1-15 to the playoffs, you can get paid off at a whopping price of 20 to 1.

The Cleveland Browns Will Be a Success If…

... They can either find their quarterback of the future or stink bad enough to secure the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Cleveland is the only team in the NFL that can have a 1-15 season and feel alright about it. The Browns know they're building talent around what will be their franchise player, but they probably don't have that option under center.

The good news is that there are potentially a couple options here that might pan out under center, either in the short run to make the team more competitive now, or in the future to help the squad out a couple years from now.

The here and now is represented by Brock Osweiler. Osweiler signed a big deal with the Texans last offseason, and Houston decided it was better to give the Browns a second-round pick to get rid of him 12 months later than to keep him on the roster. Osweiler may or may not end up being a complete and utter failure, but the Browns have the time to figure this out on their own.

The future is represented by DeShone Kizer. The Notre Dame product was a second-round pick. It's a high enough pick to think that Kizer might represent the future, but it's not such a high pick that the Browns would be wrecked if he didn't pan out.

But if none of that works out? That's fine, too. The Browns could legitimately have a pair of top 10 picks this year in the NFL Draft, and they could find themselves a quarterback with one of those selections.

The Cleveland Browns Will Be a Failure If…

… Myles Garrett and Jabrill Peppers don't fit into the defensive scheme.

The only thing the Browns need to do this season is start to shore up their defense. There are still holes here for sure, but between trading for Calvin Pryor and drafting Garrett and Peppers, that's three new starters who this team should be able to really build around. Let's also remember that Jamie Collins will be in his first full season with the Browns as well, and he had some good moments at the end of the season after he was traded from New England.

Garrett, though, has been an injury nightmare in recent years, while Peppers doesn't necessarily have a spot in the NFL. Is he a linebacker? Or a safety? Or a corner? Or a punt returner? We're not all that sure. But the Browns have to figure that out.

The key to amassing all these draft picks is to make them pan out to start developing that core. Peppers and Garrett don't necessarily have to develop into stars immediately, but they can't be complete and utter busts either.

Cleveland Browns 2017 Predictions

Cleveland isn't going to go 1-15 again, but it isn't going to be the worst team in the league either. We still don't think the Browns have a quarterback on the roster, and that's going to be their demise. Still, their defense is going to ultimately put a few games in the win column this year when either Osweiler, Kizer or Cody Kessler can hold onto the football and put together some good outings.

The Browns probably won't be all that happy with a 6-10 season, knowing that that won't be good enough to compete and won't be bad enough to be at the top spot in NFL Draft. However, we think that's a nice step in the right direction for a team that we think will overachieve.
