Outside of Bill Belichick, no coach has been with his team longer than Marvin Lewis. Each and every year, it's amazing to think that Lewis continues with his job in spite of the fact that he has never even won a playoff game in his career. That said, after a 118-103-3 record with the team over the course of his tenure, Lewis knows this might be his very last chance to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to at least one postseason victory in 2017.

Cincinnati Bengals Super Bowl Odds

Super Bowl Odds: +5500

AFC Championship Odds: +2500

AFC North Odds: +350

Odds Bengals Make Playoffs: +165

Bengals Regular Season Win Total: 8.5

Part of the reason why Lewis manages to keep his job year in and year out is because the Bengals flat out aren't enough of a disaster to fire him. Last season's 6-9-1 record was as bad as it was due in part to the fact that the team's best player, A.J. Green, sat out the last six games of the campaign. It's worth remembering that Cincinnati had won at least nine games in five consecutive seasons before last year's debacle.

Still, it's always hard to ask the men from the Queen City to do much of anything in terms of NFL futures. A price of 55 to 1 to win the Super Bowl probably presents some decent value for a team that is probably talented enough to be called one of the top 15 teams in the NFL in 2017, yet that lack of playoff victories remains a huge deterrent.

Cincinnati has a regular season win total of 8.5, yet it's an underdog to get into the postseason at +165.

The Cincinnati Bengals Will Be a Success If…

... Andy Dalton returns to his 2015 form.

Again, it's not Dalton's fault that last year turned out to be such a disaster. Over the course of the last couple seasons, he's lost Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Lewis to free agency, and what was left when Green was out of the fold was a group of receivers that would have looked great for the old Cincinnati Rockers of the Arena Football League.

Dalton only threw a total of two touchdowns in his last three games of the regular season, and that won't happen again if Green is on the field for the full 16 games.

Keep in mind that Cincinnati should get more out of second-year receiver, Tyler Boyd, and drafting John Ross immediately adds a burner to the offense that can stretch the heck out of the field.

The Cincinnati Bengals Will Be a Failure If…

… Lewis starts to lose this locker room.

By all accounts, Lewis is loved in Cincinnati by his players, but there are definitely some signs that he isn't the most respected coach in the world. Vontaze Burfict, Dre Kirkpatrick and Adam Jones continue to get themselves into trouble with personal fouls and silly penalties. Their play on the field, though always aggressive, is often reckless and gets the rest of the team in trouble.

We've seen the Bengals melt down in the past. They did so against the Steelers in the 2016 playoffs, and they effectively did so in losses to Dallas and New England early last season when the defense flat out looked like it gave up.

This is a volatile team for sure. Cincinnati has a lot of talent, but it also has a lot of egos that have to be soothed often. If Lewis can't strike that balance, this could end up being a 4-12 team.

Cincinnati Bengals 2017 Predictions

The Bengals went 1-6-1 in games decided by one score last season, and that poor fortune should ultimately reverse course in 2017, especially if Green is healthy and Ross can truly be a difference-maker on this offense.

This is a big year in Dalton's career. He's getting to the point that he's going to be labeled a bit of a bust in spite of the fact that he has top 10 talent at the pivot position.

Even though we have no confidence in this team in the playoffs, the schedule is fairly reasonable with games against the AFC South and NFC North. If there are five wins to be had in those eight games, Cincinnati is 4-2 in division away from beating its season win total, and that doesn't even include winnable games against the Bills and Broncos. We'll forecast 10-wins for the Bengals, and that might ultimately be good enough to win the AFC North at a nice price of +350.
