The Baltimore Ravens are only a few years away from winning the Super Bowl, but they sort of feel like they're in the midst of a bit of purgatory. We know they have the coaching with John Harbaugh and the quarterback play with Joe Flacco to ultimately win it all if they just get into the second season. That said, they don't have a championship team surrounding these pieces at this point. Baltimore might still be dangerous, but it's going to take a big step up from last season to make that happen.
Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl Odds
Super Bowl Odds: +4500
AFC Championship Odds: +1500
AFC North Odds: +250
Odds Ravens Make Playoffs: +110
Ravens Regular Season Win Total: 8.5
Baltimore is one of these teams that is going to always be at least competitive. The oddsmakers would probably get killed if they lined the Ravens at better than 50 to 1 to win the Super Bowl, especially after they went from a team that barely snuck into the playoffs to one that won it all a few years back. That said, this price of 45 to 1 doesn't quite feel like it's justified when you consider the fact that the Colts, Titans, Eagles and Saints all have comparable odds. Is Baltimore really as good as these teams? We're not sure.
The Ravens are seemingly always around 50/50 to get into the playoffs, and that's the case again this year. Baltimore is +110 to get into the postseason, and you'd like to think that most are going to hop on that bandwagon, especially with a season win total of 8.5.

The Baltimore Ravens Will Be a Success If…
... they can establish a ground game once again.
When the Ravens were at their best, they had big time running backs on their roster. Whether it was Ray Rice or Jamal Lewis, the Super Bowl teams Baltimore has produced have had top notch running backs.
The Ravens aren't going to have a big time 1,000-yard back this year in all likelihood; Lorenzo Taliaferro isn't a bell cow, and he's going to be asked to split the backfield with Terrance West and the newly acquired Danny Woodhead.
Regardless as to who is running the ball, the Ravens have to average more than 4.0 yards per carry as they did last year. Ranking No. 22 in the NFL in yards per rush and No. 28 in rushing yards per game won't cut it, and the Ravens will only reach the ultimate level of success if someone – or some combination of players – do much better than that.
The Baltimore Ravens Will Be a Failure If…
… Flacco isn't given the proper tools around him to succeed in the passing game.
Obviously a good ground game is a quarterback's best friend, but his next best friend is an offensive line that is going to protect him. Flacco was sacked 2.1 times per game last season. That's not a poor number, but it's not exactly stellar either and isn't indicative of how many times he was hit.
Ronnie Stanley will be the left tackle of the future for this team, but he struggled at times in his rookie season. There isn't an obvious center on the team yet, and James Hurst and Marshal Yanda are largely undersized.
The Ravens did a nice job adding Jeremy Maclin to the passing game, a tremendous complement to the speed of Mike Wallace and the potential of Breshad Perriman. But with tight end Dennis Pitta suffering what is likely a career-threatening injury in the offseason, there aren't a slew of great options in the center of the field for Flacco either.
The pieces have to come together on this offense, and if they don't, the Ravens are in a lot of trouble.
Baltimore Ravens 2017 Predictions
We haven't really spoken a lot about Baltimore's defense, and for good reason. This unit is still solid after all these years. Even in an 8-8 campaign last year, the Ravens ranked in the top 10 in the league in total defense, pass defense, rush defense and scoring defense. We're not worried so much about that side of the ball.
Unfortunately for the Ravens, we think they're going to be third best in this division this year behind Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Will that be a playoff disqualifier? Not necessarily. There isn't an obvious contender for a Wild Card spot in the AFC East or AFC South, and the AFC West has a far harder task ahead of it in non-division play than the AFC North does. (Plus, Baltimore gets two games against the Browns; the AFC West has no such games.)
If 9-7 is good enough to get into the postseason, the Ravens are going to be a menace to some division winner and potentially the rest of the AFC as well. But there's no guarantee that'll be enough to keep Baltimore playing into January.
